Minutes of the weekly meeting of January 21, 1998

DCOM:
We are looking for a bridge CORBA(Unix)-DCOM in order to integrate also 
DCOM-modules. There seems not a lot to be around. Mehul will contact VisualAge 
(Kanada) and I-Kinetics.

RMI:
Catherine is going to integrate RMI as a fourth transportation layer protocol. 
It will probably just be a CORBA-RMI bridge (programming assignment for this 
quater).

CORBA, DCE:
We will try to install CORBA and DCE on Kazuki's Solaris Durgon. DCE will just 
be a client of the test cell. Pankaj contacts Andy for the installation of 
CORBA, Woody (Catherine) contacts Jie for the installation of DCE. Woody will 
need this installation in order to test the CHAIMS-compiler generating both, DCE 
and CORBA within one megaprogram.

ASN.1, blobs:
The blobs will be BER-encoded ASN.1 data. In case we will run into difficulties, 
we might reconsider this decision. Hao is purchasing an ASN.1-compiler as well 
as an ASN.1-"analyser". He will work together with Kazuki on the integration of 
the "analyser" into the general I/O-megamodule, and will integrate the compiler 
into the wrapper software.

Current work:
The next and most urgent goal is to get a minimal infrastructure running 
(compiler, wrapper for CORBA, blobs just as strings). For this the following 
things need to be finished:
Wrapper:  - adding missing parts, code of Steve (Pankaj, Catherine)
          - consolidating interface with output of compiler (Woody, Pankaj)
Compiler: - clean up code (Woody, Catherine)
          - output to files, repository (Woody)
Integration and Test: maybe with mathmegamodule (Pankaj, Woody, Catherine)

Further work that should lead to a useful prototype:
Wrapper:  - ASN.1 converter (Hao)
          - wrappers, bridge to DCOM (Mehul)
          - wrappers, bridge to RMI (Catherine)
Compiler: - mixing CORBA and DCE (Woody)
I/O-megamodule: - displaying ASN.1 data (Kazuki, Hao, Dorothea)
Demo:     - ???

Other activities:
- Paper for IEEE Software (Dorothea, Catherine), deadline Febr,15
- Rearranging and updating web-pages (Dorothea)

Deadlines for above activities? 
Do we have anything to do on the compiler side for integrating DCOM- or 
RMI-modules? I suppose no, as we will use CORBA bridges.
