A summary of the presentation can be found in a document about the architecture I will write as soon as I have time. To be discussed again in a future meeting: the CHAIMS-language right now has 8 primitives. This might not be the final set, as we have not yet really investigated estimation and optimization (==> parameters for extract ....). We postpone these issues until we have a running infrastructure and a demo. ASN.1-compiler: The compiler of UH Communications ApS does not include encoding and decoding routines - for this we have to purchase their encoding-decoding library. The resulting price is thus not ~3000.-$ but ~15000.-$. There is another product of another company available for ~1000.-$. This product is new and we do not know a lot about it. Decision: we purchase the one for 1000.- and try it out. If it does not work, we might have to go for the expensive one. But at least it should allow us to verify if the decision to use ASN.1 is right and to find out how we integrate such a tool into our architecture. Clean-up and integration: ct and wp will continue with tidying up and integrating the software written so far. The goal is also knowledge transfer, so wp knows the software by the time ct graduates. Next meeting: Wednesday, 1/21/98, 10:30 or 11:15, details will be announced Comments welcome, Dorothea -- Dorothea Beringer Stanford University beringer@db.stanford.edu http://www-db.stanford.edu/people/beringer.html --
